Brenda graduated from our Leadership and Skills Course in 2017 at the age of ….She used the attained public speaking skills to volunteer at a church. Inspired by how to change the poverty story at home, she got skilled in hair dressing and tailoring as she was being sponsored by SHAREs “I AM FORTUNATE”. She is now unstoppable at just 18 years as she is pursuing her purpose of becoming a Nursery Teacher, paying her school fees from the small earnings from a nearby nursery school where she is volunteering as she practices working with young children.
Immaculate graduated from our school based program in 2016. Would walk 0ver 09 kilometers to go to the nearest secondary school every day. She would be sent back home for school fees more than an average of 12 times in a term. Holding on to hope, she managed to complete her High school and started a tea business during her vacation. She is so glad for not giving up as her university tuition is partially paid by SHARE and is using the profits from her fresh vegetable business to cater for her meals, data for research and airtime.
Racheal completed SHAREs course in 2016 and was doing well until she dropped out of school, travelled to Kampala and started living with a man in S.5. She recalled SHAREs teachings and decided to return to school even after discovering that she was pregnant. She managed to convince her single mother to return her to school leading to her completing high school while nursing her two months baby “I would breast feed my baby during exams while my other colleagues would be revising for the next paper but I believed that I would make it and this pain was temporary”. She learnt how to plait hair during her vacation and is currently being partially sponsored at university.
Eva graduated from our school based program in 2016. Joined secondary but unfortunately her grand farther who was her sole care taker suffered a severe medical injury which put her at a risk of dropping out of school. She was supported by SHAREs education sponsorship to complete S.4. Realizing that SHARE had put their sponsorship on a hold due to Covid 19, Eva fearlessly travelled to Saudi Arabia with the objective or working as a maid to earn some income as capital for her business. While in Saudi, she was able to overcome the few challenges by always reflecting on SHAREs teachings on never giving up and knowing your purpose. She also saved over 92% of her income and returned home to start her own business.
Praise appreciates SHARE so much for teaching her about how to overcome some health concerns that young girls face while in primary. No one had ever told me about the information that SHARE provided but they would just caution me against sleeping with men that “I will see” if I do not listen. SHARE answered all my questions and helped me to appreciate my body changes as a girl. In 2022, SHARE provided us with re-usable sanitary pads which was a very big challenge for most girls at my school. They added me another packet in 2024 and am forever grateful to Afripads as the pad helped to move all girls from missing school during the first three days and using of old knickers, hand kerchiefs, socks, toilet papers and old rugs. Now I can work out without any fear of my pad made out of old cloths dropping out. SHAREs lessons also encouraged me to become a leader am currently the Class Councilor for my class with a role of inspiring girls to remain in school and our discussions are guided by the safe space policy.
Joselyn decided to join our out of school project when she heard the announcement in church. After attending the first four sessions, she took the leap by supplementing her vegetable selling business in the evening within Gatyanga town to selling rice on during Rwimi Friday the market day. She is very glad for attending the course as it opened her mind towards new possibilities.
Espe knew that she had to do something to supplement her husbands and her per day (digging on other peoples gardens for an estimate of 02Usd per day) but was always fearful and believed that she enjoyed her “per day” make shift job. She joined SHAREs out of school project because she felt time was available and was curious to hear what the sessions were about. To her surprise, with in just a few weeks of attending, she took the leap and started selling millet porridge and has expanded to selling vegetables and tapioca floor. She says there is no looking back as she considers this simply a capital generation idea for her to start a cloths hawking business.
…… I am so glad that SHARE made me to realize that we have resources that we can utilize to earn an income. My name is …. Am a single mother of 03 children. Despite of the above, I used not to work with passion so I opened a vegetable shop for survival. However, when I joined SHAREs out of school program, I reflected on my children’s future and decided to do my best which has helped me to expand into selling other items such as beans, bananas, and have even expanded my display to that stall outside. Lastly, your teachings about having multiple sources of income to maximize potential made me to return my sewing machine which I had dumped at home. I believe I shall be able to make some money this Christmas which will become my capital for 2025.
